NYC – The NomNoms Tour
I am FINALLY posting the NYC trip photos and food my friends…
**Warning** This post is going to be dangerously full of pictures…proceed with caution.

I had the best weekend ever! I went to NYC and visited with not 1, not 2, but 4! of my friends from college and high school. I most definitely needed this weekend…it was so nice to visit and see the girls and get to visit and catch up. It is always nice so catch up. Everyone is so spread out these days it is sometimes hard to keep track but it was so nice, and seriously a coincidence, that so many people were in NYC this weekend. It worked out perfectly!
Originally I was planning on seeing Kait and Karen in NYC…but my college roommate Chrissy, who I love to death, saw my blog post about me going to NYC and texted me and said “I am going to be in NYC too!”…well heck yes!! Let’s make a party out of this haha. She was staying with another one of our high school friends, Nicole. So, not only did I get to see Kait and Karen, but I got to see Chrissy and Nicole too…winning!
The first stop on the trip was to Chelsea Market. If you have never gone and you are a foodie….oh my goodness GO! You will have so much fun. There is all sorts of different foods to see. Let’s take a tour shall we?
Bowery Kitchen Supplies – this store is seriously a cook’s dream…it is a kitchen supply store which offers all sorts of pro-quality equipment from pots & pans to utensils to appliances.
**I was walking around like a kid in a candy store in this supply shop. “ooo look at that! and this! shiny!” haha**
Jacques Torres Chocolate Bar – handcrafted chocolates that are free of preservatives and artificial flavors (which is great for me because I am allergic to artificial colors and flavors).
**I definitely went with the Love Potion #9 (dark chocolate) and Fresh Coconut chocolate squares. At $1.60/piece for about a 1 cmX1 cm square, might seem a bit steep…but they were super good. Patrick (my fabulous new guy!) went with a HUGE chocolate chip cookie, which was also extremely scrumptious**
The Nut Box -their aim is to offer fresh, savory, wholesome, natural and organic nuts, trail mixes, dried fruits and granola at a pretty reasonable price.
Lucy’s Whey – offers a very carefully chosen selection of artisan and farmstead cheeses, all made in America. Also had tons of crackers to put the cheese on.
**Seriously impossible to try and walk by this cheese shop without stopping in. Smells amazing…**
The Filling Station – they specialize in extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegars, sea salts, sugars, scrubs and there was a sign that said they would soon craft local and imported beer.
**This place was so cool…there were little tiny cups for you to try all the olive oils and vinegars. Also they had little spoons so you could try all the salts and sugars. My personal favorite was the Black Truffle Salt…wowza!**
People’s Pops – small “popsicle” stand that sells popsicles and shaved ice (from very large ice blocks like you can see with the guy in the picture). Extremely unique flavors.
**Miss Kait tried the shaved ice and said it was delicious but a bit messy hehe**
The Lobster Place – Wholesale/retail fish market that boasts an excellent selection of seafood at what seemed good prices. They also had prepared foods including lobsters (see picture above) and sushi (see picture below).
(the sushi looks fantastic and the prices were really reasonable for what you got)
Eleni’s – Bakery with hand-painted art cookies for any occasion. Tons of specialty cupcakes, cakes, and cookies.
Amy’s Bread – Master baker Amy Scherber’s bakery. Amazing breads, sandwiches, cakes, cookies, and muffins.
**I had a yellow cake cupcake with mocha frosting. The frosting was absolutely divine! I was a little disappointed in the cake, it had cornmeal in it which made the cupcake slightly dry. Patrick got the devil’s food cake cupcake with chocolate silk icing, his cake was much better than mine but my mocha frosting won out I think ;-). Put the two together and we would have had a winning combination**
After we stuffed ourselves with food at the market we went on the High Line which was SUCH a good choice. The view from the walkway was great. It is a mile long and runs along the lower west side of Manhattan. I would recommend doing this after the market or even before, but I say after because that way you can go walk off all the crazy food you just ate at the market haha 😉
So I mentioned that I got to see Chrissy and Nicole too right?!
Chrissy is one of my most favorite people in the whole world. Her and I toughed it out in college all 4 years as roommates. We were always having a good time and surprisingly enough I feel like we were always cooking something (or drinking haha). It was SO good to see you Chrissy!! I miss you tons and tons. Also, was SO awesome to see Nicole (who is engaged! yay!!).
Onto dinner at Max Brenner. First off the ambiance at dinner was so much fun. It was energetic and very modern. I mean look at the sign they had in the main dinning area…too much fun!
The actual menu was pretty impressive for a place that is known for their chocolatey desserts. I was extremely happy with my dinner which was a grilled asparagus crèpe.
(with creamed spinach, asiago & swiss in the crèpe. Waffle fries dusted with chili & cocoa powder, cute right? Along with a chipotle dipping sauce and a clemetine and roasted red pepper salad on top)
It was pretty fabulous, not gonna lie…everyone else got some pretty amazing looking food as well, but let’s skip to the good part…the dessert.
The menu for the desserts was…insane. Patrick and I were having a hard time deciding what we wanted…correction, Raven was having a hard time deciding what she wanted. Shocking I know…
The choices were beyond what I could handle…
Kait, however, did me proud and went with the colossal “Euphoria Peanut Butter Chocolate Fudge Sundae”.
(deep chocolate peanut butter ice cream, dulce de leche ice cream, caramelized toffee bananas, pure chocolate chunks, milk chocolate sauce & warm peanut butter sauce. Garnished with whipped cream and crunchy hazelnut bits. Served with extra peanut butter sauce and very pure milk chocolate ganache)
Karen went with the Double Macchiato served in a Kangaroo Cup which is probably one of the coolest things I have ever seen. The chocolate on the edge melted into the cup…
Patrick got the Melting Marshmallow Hot Chocolate (milk chocolate of course). Basically just a yummy hot chocolate with marshmallows on top. He seemed to enjoy it…haha
I went with a milkshake which were served in an Alice Cup with a metal straw. It called the “Eighties Milkshake” which had milk chocolate ganache, vanilla bourbon ice cream, and a crunchy chocolate shell.
It was super nomnom worthy…I couldn’t put it down, even when my throat was burning from how cold it was haha.
All in all I had a fabulous time in NYC! I was so happy to get to eat all sorts of good food and even happier to see the people I love and miss. I apologize for the photo gallery I have going on in this post…I couldn’t resist posting all of the pictures that I took (and believe me there is a shitton more of them that I didn’t haha).

There is so much to do in NY but I would be like you-getting the most enjoyment out of the markets, bakery and kitchen supply stores! Glad you had some friends there that could get you right to these places.

I should have never looked at this before dinner, I was already hungry, but now! That sundae is seriously calling me, lol. Sounds like so much fun, I want to go that kitchen store, I’d make someone hide the credit cards though. Next time take me, please.

Im itching to get back to NYC for a bit. BF does not do cities though (at all) so its a bit of a hassle trying to convince him. There are a bunch of new bakeries and things that I want to try out – not to mention all the wonderful places that catch you eye once you are there. Im glad you had such a great time!
