Steak and Orzo

I’m back! Hello all! I hope you are having a great week so far. I just got back from my PA trip. Overall it went pretty good, the company was good so that made it better. It is hard to travel like that for almost an entire week, especially when you have to drive the whole way. Our trip was about 5 1/2 hours from where I am located in CT. Makes for a long couple days, BUT I got to have Yuengling which made me extremely happy (again if you don’t know what Yuengling is…check out my previous post there is a website).

I wanted to share one of the dinners that I made last weekend. I was going to post it a lot earlier but like I said I have been gone all week. So you are going to get to see it now hehe ;-). It was actually a really good meal. Hearty and healthy!

What I used:

  • Strip steaks
  • Asparagus
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Mushrooms
  • Orzo
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Honey
  • Balsamic
  • Fresh Garlic
  • Olive Oil
  • Garlic Salt
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

First off, I always season my steaks before I start cooking because I like them to get some additional flavors. I think that most of the time simple is better with steaks. I don’t like a lot of fancy flavors on the actual meat. I like the side dishes to add the flavors.

Salt and pepper

These steaks were grilled along with the asparagus that we had. I seasoned the asparagus with salt, pepper, a tiny bit of garlic salt, and olive oil. They were also cooked on the grill. It is getting to be really cold out so whenever it is a little nicer I try to use the grill.I am one of those people that cuts quite a bit of the ends of the asparagus off. Personally I think asparagus is bitter towards the bottom.

Now onto the orzo! This is one of my favorite orzo recipes. What you need for it is: Orzo, honey, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, cherry tomatoes, and mushrooms.

It is super simple and really good and honestly goes with any kind of meal or could BE a meal. Boil your water and put the orzo in and cook for about 9-10 minutes. I like my orzo slightly undercooked which is why I only cook for 9 minutes. If you like it more cooked keep in for longer.

In a small pot put olive oil and honey. Heat up on medium heat until the honey is hot. Put cherry tomatoes in whole. Do not cut them. Let the olive oil and honey start to bubble around the tomatoes. The tomatoes will start to burst. Once they do add in the balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper. You need to stir this quite often. Once most of the tomatoes have burst, take it off the heat and place to the side.

While the tomatoes are cooking. Place olive oil and fresh garlic in a pan until garlic starts to brown. Toss in mushrooms and cook until they have decreased in size by half and are tender.

Once the mushrooms and the tomatoes are cooked. Combine them in pan.

Delicious!

Then include the orzo…

stir until the ingredients are combined

I can’t tell you how much I love this orzo. It is so tasty. The different flavors really work well together and the texture is just awesome. YUM! Try it out, I promise you will like it.

After you get all that done all you have to do now is plate your meal and then walllaahh! NomNoms! hehe πŸ˜‰
