Lemon-Basil Martinis
Hello all! I hope your week is going well so far. Mine is going…a tad bit busy. And we definitely had an earthquake yesterday while I was at work. Weird for CT right?! That is what I thought. I am used to the tornadoes with being from the Midwest, not so much the earthquakes though. Seems like a lot of people felt it along the eastern seaboard. The guy I sit next to goes, “is the building shaking?”…haha yup!
This is a drink that I stumbled upon one time at a restaurant and I wanted to try and replicate it. It definitely wasn’t as good as I had it in the restaurant, but it was pretty darn good. I was intrigued when I saw it and it had lemon and basil together in a drink.
To be honest, I had never had the pair together, but now I have NO idea why I didn’t discover it earlier. I have been seeing lots of recipes lately with lemon and basil together though. It is fantastic! Hope you all enjoy this.
Ingredients for Martini:
- 5-6 leaves fresh basil
- One packet granulated sugar or equal
- 1/2 ounces lemon juice
- 1/2 ounce simple syrup
- 2.5-3ounces citrus vodka
- Ice
Place basil leaves in shaker with sugar. Add in the lemon juice and syrup.
Add in the ice and shake. Lastly put in the vodka and shake again.
Viola! Martini my friends!

Love this martini Raven! I had it in a restaurant also, here in FL. (maybe the same place) Tried to recreate it but it didn’t quite taste the same. I’ll try your recipe too! It really is an awesome martini! Thanks!

Looks really tempting although I try to keep anything with alcohol more for a weekend relaxation.

Now I know what I can do with all my basil on the patio, Lemon Basil martinis:) A Great idea and pairing of flavors. Cheers!

The earthquake was unreal! Now I’m just waiting for a mountain in the Appalachians to become volcanic. Haha.
This drink is perfection!

Oh what a tasty sounding combo. Glad you were ok through the shaking. Much rather be shaking a drink than getting shook up. I still try to do the tornado drill when we have earthquakes out here. Guess you always know what you grew up with.

I don’t drink but I can’t definitely serve this in my party 🙂

We made one several months ago and wound up putting it thru the blender to turn it into a slushie. Since then, I’ve requested it several times. I’ve got it on kateiscooking. Glad you made it thru the earthquake! We even felt it here in Indianapolis 🙂

What a treat to stop by and see such a gorgeous martini! A nice combo, with a basil leaf and curly q lemon rind garnish – how refreshing. I have lots of fresh basil looking to be placed in new and exciting things. Perhaps tonight this will be the perfect beverage! Thanks!

. . . oh, glad all is okay! Crazy stuff going on. A hurricane is heading our way, yikes.

Whew-so far no bad news on the earthquake, most people were just a little shocked. This drink is a nice one to calm down with. Love the flavors-great summery drink!

I might have to run to the store to make this one, I love basil. I’ve never had lemon and basil together, I’d love to try it for the first time in a cocktail. Hope you are having a great week.

Oh I love martinis… I am such a sucker for them! Everyone around me said that they felt the earthquake too but I didn’t… Although that was the day that all my papers were due so I guess I was just too out of it! 🙂

Hi Raven! Didn’t get a chance to make the martini last night, but bookmarking it for another time. Thanks!
Isabelle @ Crumb
We felt the earthquake all the way up here too (well, barely), and then we had a crazy lightning storm last night complete with tornado warnings. Mother Nature must be pissed off! 🙂 (I’m half-expecting fire and flood to make an appearance before the week is through to complete the set)
I had a lemon-basil martini at a restaurant a couple of weeks ago, and really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing this recipe… now I can make my own at home. Much more convenient!
