Traditions

Does your family have traditions around the holidays? My family….

(picture above at the Liebro household – Thanks so much for having us over Christmas Eve. It was a great party.)

Meet Mom and Dad. In our family there are certain traditions that we do during the Christmas season and have ever since I can remember and I thought that it would be nice to share them with you all..

We (mostly my mom) spend countless hours decorating every inch of the house with Santa figurines, stockings., and Christmas trees. Everywhere you look there is another little something that just oozes Christmas cheer.

Along with the decorating my mom and I always seem to go bonkers when it comes to wrapping gifts, it is something we both seem to enjoy doing and we always end up having these ridiculous sized bows on the presents under the trees haha…

Every Christmas Eve we watch White Christmas. You know, the old one with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. Where they dance around and sing and fall in love. Could seriously, not even question, be one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time. “Snow, SNow, SNOw, SNOW!”. I hope that tradition never dies in my family. Watching that movie gives me the warm and fuzzies.

Another thing that is tradition in my house is Christmas cookies. My mom makes the most delicious Christmas cookies. She makes over 100 different varieties and they are all perfection. She spends so much time on them and then sells them for extra holiday spending cash ;-). If you can’t find a cookie that you like on her cookie trays, well…you just shouldn’t eat cookies. There is something for everyone! From mini cheesecakes to sugar cookies to chocolate crinkles. She has everything!

Now another tradition that we have is we always go to Church on Christmas Eve. I know a lot of people complain that people ONLY go to church when it is the holidays, and my family is not one of those only holiday church goer types, but I still believe that even if it is only a couple of times a year…it is such a great way to get your family together in one place to celebrate the time of year and the blessings you have.

Another big tradition of ours is that I always wear that Santa hat on Christmas morning to hand out the presents to the family. I know, I know. I am almost 26 and I am still handing out presents in my PJs with a Santa hat…but what better time of year is there to feel like a kid again than Christmas time? It makes you younger to act like a kid sometimes!

Now onto my favorite tradition…the cinnamon rolls. Ahhhhh yes! The glorious, gooey, cinnamony, crispy, merrydeliciousness, called cinnamon rolls. This is by far the best part of Christmas for me. Waking up as a kid and smelling those cinnamon rolls in the oven. Oh man, there was nothing better. My mom being who she is would always treat us to a warm cup of cocoa and these topped with butter…

mmmmmm…yes please…I’ll have 6!

So, there you have it!! My family’s traditions in a nutshell. Nothing fancy or extravagant but every year I look forward to these little things that make Christmas time special for me.

What traditions do you have during the Holidays?

      Thank you Emily!

Oh, I am so glad you know the movie! She is such a great singer AND a gorgeous woman in that. My mom and I always talk about how desired she was back then, but if a woman that looked like that tried to be a singer or actor now they would laugh in her face…I am all for bringing the sexy woman shape of that era back!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with acting like a kid or even handing out presents in pajamas with a Santa hat. I distinctly remember last Christmas going shopping with my little girl with giant blinking antlers on. She had a rather festive musical Christmas tree. I got some funny looks but I don’t care. (At least I saved the glares and gestures for when she wasn’t looking.)

Those cinnamon rolls look sensational! I don’t suppose there is a recipe you can share? πŸ˜€

I’m glad you had a Merry Christmas and I hope you have a decadent and safe New Year!

I am so glad that you agree Dionne! There is nothing better than acting like a kid again during the holidays!

I would LOVE to share the recipe with you, BUT it is a family secret which I have been told I must take the the grave. Maybe, once I get it perfected I will provide it for everyone πŸ˜‰

I hope you have a great new year as well!

I know, I am really hoping I get those genes! Can you believe she is almost 50?! She doesn’t look it! We used to go to midnight mass and then it ended up being so crowded that we always had to stand. So, we started to go earlier. Hope you had a great Christmas Krista!

Who did the gift-wrapping? Your mom? wow..I want to learn how to make those ribbon flowers…golden, white, red…just beautiful. At Christmas time, we love to watch one old James Steward movie ‘It’s a wonderful world”….

    Happy New Year!

Seriously, if I received one present wrapped like yours, I’d be completely satisfied. Those are so beautiful! It seems that with the rush of the holidays, my wrapping skills have gone down the toilet. I think 2011 is going to be the year of making things prettier…in every aspect.
100 varieties of cookies?! What a super baker your mom must be.

We eat cinnamon rolls every Christmas, too. Made the night before, they are the best beginning to a great day.

They are definitely the best beginning to a great day! I can’t imagine Christmas without them!

God I miss the cinnamon rolls…. Of all of the things that we did with Mom and Dad around Christmas time….that’s the one that your nephews are getting to enjoy. πŸ˜‰ I’ve not quite gotten Cindy convinced to go a little more like Mom on the christmas tree, but I’m slowly working my way there. πŸ˜‰
