SweetBurgers with Chipotle Cilantro Cream

We are going to start off today with some frustration and then get to the excitement, sound good?

OK, so I am CONFUSED!!

What the heck Facebook? The timeline feature is really neat to look at, but how the heck do I get it to do what I want for my RavieNomNoms Fanpage? I can’t get any of my links to come up just under my cover picture. Maybe it has something to do with the amount of people you have liking your page and that gives you different options?

As, I am looking through book of faces that is all I can tell. Some people are able to put Pinterest, Twitter, etc. on there. I however…cannot. Not even an option! I gots “photos” and “likes”. Hmmm…

Any insight you have will be much appreciated my foodie friends!

Now onto excitement….

I am excited! Wanna know why?!

Sure ya do!

This weekend I am taking a cooking class with Patrick in Canton, CT. For my birthday my Mom & Dad got me a gift certificate to Sur La Table to take cooking classes. Which I think is so uber-cool (yes I said uber-cool, has to be the nerd rubbing off on me from Patrick).

I decided that I wanted to take the class called, Cozy French Bistro Dinner. Check out the link! I am really excited to try it out! I have never taken a cooking class before, so I am really really excited. I will make sure and take a lot of pictures (if they are allowed) for you all to see.

The recipe I am sharing with you today is something I found in my looking through the internet for recipes. I thought it looked really interesting and I always love finding new veggie burger recipes, because well…I eat mostly veggies. Although I have to start getting more protein in my diet…I swear I am trying!

Find the original recipe here.

Ingredients for Burger:

  • 2 large sweet potatoes (2lbs-ish), cut int 1/2 cubes
  • 1 can of black beans, drained
  • 1/2 red onion, finely chopped
  • 3/4 cup cooked quinoa
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Ingredients for Cream:

  • 1.5 cups of olive oil Mayo
  • 2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
  • 2 limes, juiced
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, more or less to taste
  • Pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 425ΒΊ

Take your potatoes you have cubed (with skin) and put in a large heat-safe bowl with about 2 tablespoons of water in the bottom. Microwave your potatoes (with a lid!) for about 8 minutes or until they are soft and mash-able. You can also do this in the oven if you like, but this is a real time saver for those who are busy on the week days!

Add your oats to a food processor and pulse until it looks like very coarse flour.Take out of the food processor and set aside.

Add your beans and potatoes to your food processor and pulse together but do not mix completely. Place the beans and potatoes into a larger bowl and toss in all your ingredients listed in the first section and work together with your hands.

Shape into patties and place onto a baking sheet that has been sprayed with cooking spray liberally. Cook the patties for about 35 minutes turning half way through.

Add all of your items for the cream into a food processor and mix together. It is just that simple! Serve on the burger or on the side to dip some sweet potato fries in!

These are a great meal for during the week or for those of you who need “meat-less” solutions for Lent. I promise you that you will be eating these after Lent too.

The texture is so gorgeous, the inside is soft and velvety (bet you never thought you would hear that term used for burger) but the outside was crisp and crunchy. Aside from what you might think, this burger wasn’t overly sweet. It has just the right amount of spice and salt.

A definite must try!

Haha… Uber-cool πŸ™‚ I’ll try and tone down the nerd within. I can’t wait for the cooking class either, hopefully I get some easy jobs to do like grab this and that or grate this, things I can handle, hehe.. In retrospect I really wish I would have remembered we had some of these left as I would have definitely eaten another or two for lunch

    • RavieNomNoms

Indeed! They did an awesome job at sticking together. I have had that problem with other veggie burgers too when they just don’t stick. But the potatoes were a great addition!

  • Suzi

When I saw the title I thought it was going to be a burger, burger and was so happy to see this. I made sweet potatoes last night and have quite a bit left over, I am going to try this out for lunch, I even have the quinoa, LOL. This looks really tasty. Hope you have a great day.

    • RavieNomNoms

Well that is just perfect Suzi!! I hope the burgers turn out great for you. How convenient to have all those ingredients to hanging out for you!! πŸ™‚

Raven, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I bookmarked this for later. Now I can have a burger on Friday! I dont mean the yucky blackbean burgers you buy at the store in the frozen food section.

I so agree with you about this FB timeline junk!! What the heck? I don’t get either. Luckily I haven’t converted my page yet, but I’m dreading it. I am so excited about your cooking class. I want to take a class to learn knife skills. I just drool over really chopping and dicing skills. Me.. I’m more of a hacker than a a slicer. πŸ™‚ This burger looks great. You go on now with those sweet potatoes… that’s an awesome idea!! I love every component of this burger!! Well done. πŸ™‚

    • RavieNomNoms

Thank you Ramona!! Sweet potatoes are such a nice addition to a burger in my opinion. I am glad you enjoyed it too! The book of faces is just weird haha. I have given up for the time being until they get all the kinks out of this new timeline thing. From what I have read everyone will be switched on March 30th. Should be interesting!! I am excited for my cooking class too! πŸ™‚

  • Tina@flourtrader

I completely understand the excitement. Sur La Table is a wonderful place and if it were not so far of a drive, I would be taking all their classes! You did get a great gift.
That burger does look amazing and I know it is packed with flavor based on the ingredient list. The cream does look like it would be a good contrast to this spicy burger too. Yum!

    • RavieNomNoms

I cannot wait to see what Sur La Table is like. I have never been so I am really looking forward to it! πŸ™‚

The burger isn’t as spicy as you might thing it would be. It definitely has a spice to it but it isn’t spicy like “hot” spicy, if that makes sense haha. The cream was definitely a good addition.

Oh, awesome! My wife got me a cooking class (I chose Sustainable Seafood) for Valentine’s Day and I am so excited for it! πŸ™‚
The burger looks amazing, I adore sweet potato! The dressing must be such a vibrant contrast, love it!

  • Erin @ Dinners, Dishes, and Desserts

So fun with the cooking class! I want to go to a class of some kind. I am going to have to look around to see if any are offered in my area! I am fed up with FB lately too! I don’t know how to do what you want to do. AND everytime I post a link to my latest post lately is just shows the address – doesn’t do the normal picture, title and a little bit of the post. Been going on for 2 days!! Very annoying!

    • RavieNomNoms

Oh man, sorry to hear about your book of faces problems too. Seems like everyone is frustrated right now with it! I am sure it will settle out eventually but right now it is infuriating! haha

  • Dionne Baldwin

Oooooh SWEETburgers! I will definitely give this a try. I’m not a big fan of sweet potatoes but these burgers intrigue me. We need more meatless options! To be quite honest, my family loves it when we try your recipes so I already know it’s going to be a HIT!

Oh don’t get me started on Facebook. I am NOT a fan of this whole timeline thing. I like that we were able to create custom welcome pages and other nifty things now it’s on “timeline”. Boo.

    • RavieNomNoms

Aw Dionne! That is so sweet of you, I am so glad that your family enjoys the recipes you try from the blog. That makes me feel good about it :-). Such a sweetie you are!

Haha, I knew you would have something to say about Facebook. I hear ya on all the above my deary!

  • Emily @ Life on Food

I am completely confused with the Facebook thing too. I was playing with it the other day and felt utterly stupid. Have fun with the cooking class! I have always enjoyed every one I have taken. have also been to the Sur La Table. Love that store.

    • RavieNomNoms

Haha Emily, I know the feeling! I felt like I had never seen Facebook before. Awful! I am so glad that you liked Sur La Table. That seems to be the general consensus I am getting. Very exciting!

Oh girl, you had me at chipotle cilantro cream. I can’t eat the sweet potato burgers, but I could pour that cream over EVERYTHING!

  • sportsglutton

I’ve been ignoring those damn changes on FB hoping that they would go away and I wouldn’t have to deal with what you are saying. Damn you Zuckerberg!

Oh and nice looking burger. πŸ˜‰

  • Abby

I love all the spices! It looks like a big falafel..is the texture similar at all? Have fun at your cooking classes!! Can’t wait to see what you learn πŸ™‚

  • Kate @ KatefromScratch

These looks fantastic! I haven’t made my own veggie burgers in years, and I was just thinking how I should try it again to see how it goes. Your ingredients list is phenomenal. I’m definitely making these asap! Thanks!
