The Cupcakery in St. Louis
When I was in St. Louis during the Christmas holiday I was introduced to The Cupcakery/Crave The Cup. Patrick’s sister, Kari, and her friends seem to have made going to this particular bakery a tradition whenever they are in town visiting from college. I think I rather like that tradition and I will tell you why…
Normally when I go to bakery, I am very disappointed in the cupcakes.
Come on, admit it…you have been there. You feel my pain. They look sooooo pretty and then it is such a let down when you take your first bite. I normally end up yelling with yuckie pieces of dry cupcake falling out of my mouth:
“I could make something better than this at home and I just paid $5.75 for this thing!”
All of those bakeries that are supposed to be THE best, just end of not being. Maybe I am just completely spoiled having a mother who is a baker. But still, when I can have something outstanding at home from my mom, why on earth would I pay so much for a *ahem pardon my french* shitty cupcake?
However…
I was pleasantly surprised when I had a cupcake at The Cupcakery. The cake was moist, AH-mazing! Finally a cake that wasn’t dry and had an excellent texture! The frosting was creamy and light. Alleluia!
Perhaps these cupcakes didn’t have the most gorgeous appearance but they tasted yummy. I don’t know about you but I would much rather have a cupcake taste yummy than have it be beautifully artistic and taste like a sponge with royal icing on top. Don’t get me wrong, I think people do AMAZING work with baking with designing and whatnot, but I would just rather it taste good than look good. Just sayin’.
(BTDUBS, oh my goodness, is this blog turning me into a food snob? haha)
So check it out:
I got the Tuxedo Cupcake: Vanilla buttercream on their dark chocolate cake. Om Nom Nom!
Very good if I must say so myself. I am not a frosting person really and this frosting was great. I normally have a little bite or two of frosting but I gladly swallowed every last bite of that vanilla buttercream goodness.
Patrick decided he wanted to go with one of the specialty cupcakes they had. The Pumpkin Harvest Cupcake:
It was a pumpkin spiced cupcake with spiced buttercream frosting. He seemed to rather enjoy it. 🙂
So, if any of you foodies ever make it out to St. Louis and want a sweet treat, I would highly suggest you stop in at The Cupcakery and see what they have going on that week.
Thanks Kari for introducing it to me! It was fabulous 😀
Hope you all are having a great week!

A dry cupcake is the worst. I have been there many times and I get so frustrated. Georgetown Cupcakes I think are the best. They really live up to all of the hype, but I swear they are the only ones. Good to hear there is another one out there.

Me too Emily! I am always wanting to find bakeries that live up to all their hype. If I am ever in the area I will have to try that place!
Tiffany

Me either!

I feel the same way as you… there are a ton of cupcake places in Seattle and I am usually disappointed. There is only one place I really like the cupcake and it’s not just me it’s kid approved lol. My son has eaten cupcakes with me everywhere and lends his honest 8 year old opinion. I think he has become a bit of a food snob…I’ve turned him into a foodie. The cupcakes do look pretty I am glad they delivered on taste.

Haha how cute Susie! I love that he is a little foodie. I think there are worse things, that is for sure!

I’ve totally been there! But when they’re good… oh my! We have the White Flower Cake Shoppe in Cleveland that makes the most amazing cupcakes ever, if you are in the area! I’ll put this on my to do list, I have friends in St. Louis. 🙂

I will most definitely keep it on my list Kiri! Thanks for sharing!
Charlie

I know exactly what you mean! Especially when I take my kids – then you pay $20 for something I could have made better myself. So glad you found a keeper though!

The harvest cupcake is yelling my name! Don’t you hear it?

Glad you finally had a good experience. I’ve added them to my list in case I’m ever in that area. 🙂

Oh, I LOVE when this sort of experience exceeds your expectations! We actually have a cupcake place in our local mall that makes the BEST cupcakes….but I try not to look at them when I go past – they are totally decadent! They’ve become quite popular for wedding cakes!
Ramona
Isn’t it great when you bite into something and you have a “yum-tastic” moment! I love that. Sounds like a great place to have a cupcake. Both the cupcakes look delicious… I would have to eat both. LOL! 🙂

Nice post! I wish I could taste one…
Carolyn
Yes, I agree, cupcakes do tend to disappoint. So glad these didn’t!

I’m so with you about paying a ‘fortune’ for cupcakes when I prefer my cupcakes naked.. Seriously don’t know what’s the big deal about cupcakes especially my homemade ones taste better 😛 But somehow the Pumpkin Harvest cupcake is calling out to me.. oh dear
