Homemade Greek Yogurt Cheese
Wait…did I read that right?
Yup, you did.
Homemade.Greek.Yogurt.Cheese.
That just happened.
I love cheese, but most of the time it doesn’t love me back.
I have been avoiding cheese on the whole as much as I can. Maybe a few sneaks here and there, but on the whole I have been avoiding it for about 3-4 months now.
Believe me, I love it. A big bowl of Mac & Cheese? Amazing. My stomach agrees…for about 15 minutes. π
My mom found a recipe to make cheese from Greek Yogurt and of course I was intrigued.
I love Greek Yogurt. Love eating it with fruit, cooking with it, using it as sour cream. It has many uses in the kitchen in my humble opinion.
You can find out how to make your own Greek Yogurt cheese here.
Basically, place it into a cheese cloth with some sea salt and place into a strainer and then let it sit for a number of hours/days and viola!
You have cheese (kinda).
We added in some chive, garlic and lemon olive oil for taste, but you could add anything you like.
The consistency is kind of a cross between cream cheese and feta. Crumbly but still moist. It was delicious with crackers and vegetables!
Try it out and let me know what flavors you combine together π
Start with your favorite Greek Yogurt:
Let it sit in your cloth and strainer with salt for at least 24 hours in the refrigerator and it comes out looking like this:
Mix with your absolute favorite ingredients:

This is so cool! I’m going to try it this week. It’s really ok sitting out unrefrigerated for 24 hours?
RavieNomNoms
Oh goodness haha NO! It should be refrigerated. I will make sure and make that note in the post π

Raven, I’m a fan of Greek yogurt too, using it for many of the ways you mentioned herein. But to make cheese from it warranted a pleasant double-take. I may just give this a spin in the kitchen soon. Thanks for sharing!

Yum! What a brilliant idea! I love greek yogurt but I would have never thought to make cheese. I have a box of my favorite crackers beside me…now I just need this cheese!

That is so awesome. I didn’t think you can get thicker than Greek yogurt. I have strained regular yogurt to get Greek yogurt texture. I am going to try this out. π
