The Renovation Has Begun!
Welp, we started getting dirty in the house ya’ll. I mean REAL dirty.
First project of the new house?
REMOVING THE POPCORN CEILINGS.
Does anyone else hate these things as much as I do?? They are terrible. Perhaps they were popular at one point, but they are not attractive in any shape or form.
Want to know how to remove your popcorn ceilings? It is super easy.
Basically all you need to do is PREP really well, make sure you lay down things that will cover up all the surfaces you are worried about getting dirty. Also make sure all your furniture is out of the room.
We decided to do all of these changes before we actually moved it, that way we don’t have to worry about moving things from room to room.
Anyways, spray warm water with a little bit of soap on the ceiling, let it sit for about 15-20 minutes and then use a putty knife to scrap off!
Most of the time this is going to work great, you might get unlucky like Patrick and I and have people who didn’t prime the ceilings before putting on the popcorn. If so, it will take you a little longer to remove.
See detailed instructions here.
We were able to get 3 rooms done. The living/family room, 1/2 bath and dining room.
We also removed all of the outlets in the house because we are going to change the room colors eventually. And just a side note to all of you homeowners out there.
DO NOT paint over your outlets. If you want them to be the same color as your rooms? No problem. Just remove them and paint them the same color and then put them back on the wall.
Legit took Patrick and I like 2 hours to remove all the outlets because the people who owned the house prior to us painted ALL OVER them. Like not just the covers either, the actually outlets and the light switches. Haha, people people.
Just no.
Anyways, stayed tuned for more renovation updates ๐

Seriously… they painted the outlets and the light switches. How lazy can you get?? What a big job for you to tackle… better you than me, sister!! Hope the renovations go smoothly!! I’m so happy you got this great house!! Yay!! ๐

Haha! My father is a property person (investor/landlord/developer etc etc) and some of the weird shit people have done to some of the properties is mind baffling. Painting over outlets, though against every morsel of common sense, seems to be a fairly regularly stupid occurrence. It’s so lazy and it rarely looks like a job well done. Good for you for not standing for those shenanigans!
I so look forward to seeing how you renovate your beautiful home!

I actually like your room colors! ๐ That’s funny about the outlet covers… not sure why people do that! It’s like you don’t want people to find the light switch. ๐

NIce! I like the color of the room! Doing up a house can be painful but it certainly is very rewarding at the end of it all.
