Traditional Fall Treat
I don’t know about you but when I was little one of the things that I REALLY looked forward to during the Fall was caramel apples. I remember coming home from school when my mom had made them fresh and it was like the best surprise in the world. Grabbing one of those gooey treats and biting into was just Fall to me.
The real trick was trying not to get it all over myself. Somehow I always managed to get caramel in my hair…haha, sorry Mom. Although, I have to admit that kids with sticky fingers is one of the cutest things ever. They have no idea what to do so they just hold their hands up for Mom to “help!” π
I was needing a trip back to my youth and what better way to do that then to make caramel apples? Especially since apple season is starting. We have some really amazing farms near my house so I always like stopping and grabbing some. Not to mention I am somewhat of a apple freak. I have at least an apple day. Sometimes 2 or 3, hehe. They are so good!
Ingredients:
- 6 apples (of your choice, some people like green or red more. I go with the combo)
- 1 package of candy caramels (this kind)
- 1/4 cup chopped chocolate morsels
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts of your choice (I used Almonds)
- Candy sticks or Popsicle sticks
Chop your nuts and chocolate and place in 2 separate bowls. Melt your caramel slowly in a microwave safe bowl. Make sure you do this slowly. You don’t want the caramel to burn.
Place sticks into washed apples. On a baking sheet, line parchment paper. I think parchment works better than wax, but use whatever you have on hand.
Dip your apples into the caramel and let all the excess run off before you put on parchment. Dip it into chocolate and nuts as you see fit. I did 2 chocolate, 2 plain, 1 almond, and 2 mixed with all.
Yum…I could hardly wait to bite into these. They are just so good. All my childhood memories came rushing back to me in one *crunch*. Throwing leaves, warmer clothes, and caramel apples. Yea, that’s what Fall means to me…
Have a great weekend everyone!

Whoa-can I recruit you for Halloween? Caramel apples do have a way of reminding you of your childhood. I am not longer a child but that does not mean I don’t still enjoy them. You did such a good job on these- Great pictures!

My Mom never made caramel apples, but I used to buy those “Affy Taffy” apples at the grocery store, that were covered in chopped nuts. Obviously the homemade caramel apples are so much better. Love your pic.
