Hoisin Beef
Ahhh the warm California air is so glorious! So what am I doing blogging right?? Well, I had this post saved so that I could post it while I was away because I did promise you all another recipe from my Great Food for Great Friends post. Here is the last recipe from the night of cooking with my friends. The recipe is for Hoisin Beef skewers.
I wanted to make something that was easy for my guests to eat AND enjoy. That is why I decided to skewer the beef. The original recipe was for beef tenderloin steaks but this was a little less formal and more keeping with the tone of my fingerfoodish meal I had going on.
OH and just as a side note, the company I have been dancing with is having a show in April! I wanted to post the poster for the show that you all could check it out and bring some traffic to our website! Just click on the poster and it will take you right to the site. Now I am sure you all are looking at that poster below and saying, “what does that mean?”. Well, and please correct me on this if I am wrong Jenn!, the performance is loosely based on the fact that people nowadays are so connected with technology, like their phones, ipod, computers, etc., that they have completely lost human interactions and connections with real people and not a phone. That is why you see the girl hooked up to technology like an IV. Cool right? ๐
Ingredients for Hoisin Beef:
- 1-1/2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1-1/2 teaspoons grated peeled fresh ginger
- 1-1/2 teaspoons honey
- 1-1/2 teaspoon chili garlic sauce or crushed red pepper
- 4 (4oz) beef tenderloin steaks (I cut these up into cubes for the skewers)
- Cooking Spray
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 2 yellow bell peppers
- 2 orange bell peppers
Preheat your griddle and spray with cooking spray.
Cut your meat and your vegetables and place them on skewers. Make sure you don’t intermingle the veggies and beef. Put all the beef on a few skewers and then all the veggies on others. I learned this trick a while ago. The food will end up cooking much better because if you put veggies with steak, then the veggies will be done before the steak and then they burn. Not so good.
Combine hoisin sauce, ginger, honey, soy sauce, and chili garlic sauce in a small bowl…stir well with a whisk
Place steaks on your griddle along with the veggies (all I did was salt and pepper the veggies and then sprayed with cooking spray). Sprinkle the meat with a little salt and then start to cook. Cook for a few minutes and then turn over and brush with the hoisin mixture.ย Keep repeating this until the meat and veggies are cooked to your desire.
I paired the meat and veggies with a simple brown rice. Nothing fancy about it. My guests were amazed that I cooked it in the microwave though haha. I have some really nice ceramic bowls with lids that I use all the time for that kind of thing. 3 cups of brown rice, 4 1/2 cups water, into the microwave for 30 minutes on high (covered), and BAM! Cooked rice!

Have a great rest of your week everyone! I will see you all when I get back from Cali! ๐
