Beef & Broccoli

Once again the Northeast is supposed to be hit with a really bad snowstorm this afternoon into tomorrow. I seriously don’t know where we are going to put all the snow! haha, I think I may have prayed a littttle to hard for snow this year. After this storm we are going to have 4 feet of snow on the ground, which is awesome!

You know what else it is awesome?! When someone cooks you dinner…there is just nothing like getting dinner made for you in my opinion. I mean, don’t get my wrong, I LOVE to cook but sometimes it is nice to have someone else do the work while you relax.

This past weekend I was lucky enough to have Tino cook me dinner. My guy makes THE best beef and broccoli! I mean THE BEST! Honestly, he is partly the reason why I am the broccoli lover you all know and love today. When we first started dating I was not a broccoli fan at all. I think it was one of those things where I had tried years ago and not liked it at all, so I just had not tried it since. Then, I met Tino and one of his “I am going to impress this girl” dinners was Beef and Broccoli. I have to say, I was impressed!

This dish is hearty and healthy and just plain delicious. I don’t know the exact ingredient measurements because Tino basically eyeballs it, so I will just put down what I have observed.

Ingredients for Tino’s Beef & Broccoli:

  • Beef
  • 3-4 gloves Garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon Chinese 5 spice
  • 4 tablespoons Teriyaki Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Low Sodium Soy Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Flour
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Brown/white rice

THE COOK!

(he is not thrilled with me that I am taking this picture haha)

Anyways, Tino takes the meat places it into a bowl and seasons it with salt and pepper. Adds the garlic,Β  soy sauce, and the teriyaki and tosses it all together to make sure that all the meat is coated with the sauces. Then he adds flour into the meat and stirs it to make sure all the meat has a dusting of the flour.

He lets the meat marinate for maybe 20 minutes and then puts it into a hot skillet. He cooks the meat until it is almost finished cooking and then adds in the broccoli. We both prefer our broccoli to still have a crunch to it after you cook it. He learned this recipe from his Dad, who tends to cook is broccoli a little more than we do but it is great either way!

He turns the heat down and then lets the broccoli cook with the meat until it gets the bright green color to it. On the side, cook yourself some white/brown rice to accompany the beef and broccoli. This time he and I had brown rice.

YUM! Bravo Tino, this is one of my favorite meals now. I ask for it every now and then and it is one of those things that I really really enjoy that he makes. He doesn’t make a whole lot so when he does I really enjoy it! He also makes some killer boneless buffalo wings…maybe I can convince him to do that next for me πŸ˜‰
