Nutella Brownies

Good Monday Morning to you all! I hope you all had a great weekend. My weekend was rather rainy so I spent most of my time cooking and cleaning. I actually don’t mind that either! I am a rather clean person, some might say a neat freak. I however just like to call it organized, haha. I do tend to have a little OCD with certain things. For example, I am a “clean as you go” kind girl. My mother taught me this motto when I was younger as I would watch her bake the most delicious cookies and cakes. As she balanced a bowl and pan in both hands and a child on her hip she always managed to keep things so neat and tidy. “A good cook cleans as she goes!”, she would say.

While I was cleaning and doing other things I managed to do some cooking, but of course. I saw a recipe for brownies using Nutella…as most of you saw I used Nutella in my Banana Turnovers and I had about half the jar left so I wanted to use it up (because it is so delicious!!). I allllmost just spread it straight on bread and ate it for breakfast ;-). I figured that probably wouldn’t be as interesting as the brownies so I held back. Now, the recipe I wanted to try had a few things that I didn’t like, so I adapted the recipe to make a new one…

Ingredients for Nutella Brownies:

  • 1 cup butter, unsalted (original called for 1/2 cup salted)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (original called for 2 cups)
  • 1 cup light brown sugar (sub 1 cup brown sugar for 1 cup granulated)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup of baking cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt (original called for 1/8 teaspoon)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup nutella
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate cups (original recipe called for 1/2 cup)
  • 1/2 bar of large Nestle Dark Chocolate – this is for the topping

Preheat your oven to 350º

In a medium bowl sift together your flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set that bowl aside.

On low heat, melt the butter sticks in a small pot. Then add the vanilla and sugar while stirring the mixture until well combined. Remove the pot from heat and place the melted sugary goodness into a bowl or your mixer to cool. (this only took about 10-15 minutes for me).

Add one egg at a time into your sugar and mix completely. You want to make sure the egg gets incorporated completely before you add the next one.

Add the flour mixture into the sugar mixture gradually until mixed together completely. While you are doing this, heat your Nutella so that it has a runny consistency. Add the Nutella and the chocolate chips.

Pour your batter into a greased pan, you are going to want to use something that is larger than a 9X9 for this. There is quite a bit of batter and they grow haha. Before you place them into the oven. Take your dark chocolate bar and cut it so that you get shavings for the top. I used 1/2 of a large bar. That was more than enough!

Place the brownies to the oven and bake anywhere from 35-40 minutes. The original recipe called for 30 minutes but mine were not at all done by that time so I left them in for an additional 10 minutes. Once they are done, let them cool before you cut them. These brownies are ooey and gooey and will not set up unless you let them cool. I was lucky it was cold outside so I placed them in my garage to speed up the cooling process.

mmmm chocolate….

While they were baking I cut just a little more of the dark chocolate for a topping when they were finished cooling and then added just a tad of powdered sugar for good measure 😉

These brownies were so chocolatey, fudgy, gooey, smooth, and rich. Words don’t even do justice to how good these were. If you are a chocoholic…these are the brownies for you!
